Elijah, Jezebel and the Bride:
Where Are We Now?
What About the Church Without Spot or Wrinkle?
In the first segment of this message, we looked at the veil jezebel has successfully erected between the pastoral and prophetic natures. Jezebel has usurped the pastoral nature to the running off of governmental prophets, and in so doing has managed through her fierce wounding power to blind the prophetic to the legitimacy of the pastoral nature. As a result, both the complacent society-friendly pastoral stream and the outcast wilderness prophetic stream have constructed visions of the “true church” around their own nature that exclude the other.
Yet there is a problem—a big problem. The Lord has said that, in her maturity, the end time bridal church will consist of both governmental apostle/prophets and merciful healing pastor/ evangelists. In Eph. 2 and 4, the Lord speaks of a fully integrated body in which the “people-hearted” pastoral/evangelist ministry is rooted firmly in the truth-defining government of the “eternal throne-visioned” apostolic/prophetic ministry—both functioning together as one—and that this defines the church that measures up to His Stature and is able to be joined to Him.
The Lord is declaring that the church to be ready at His coming is a church able to evangelically interchange with the nations, yet is pure in separated practice and identity from the nations. It is a church able to enforce discipline within herself and judgment toward the earth, yet able to minister the graces of compassion among her own and toward the repentant needy and poor of the world.
Seen in this light, neither the tired prophetic/apostolic concept of a straggling anti-harlot focused church nor the society-seduced “let’s-all-get-along” humanist vision of pastor-led mega-churches is what the end-time church is about.
If not, then must not God have a plan to supersede the historic pastoral/prophetic divide before His coming? Must He not have a plan to overthrow the power of jezebel somewhere in the pastoral-led church, to cleanse the pastoral nature, to heal the apostolic/prophetic nature and somehow join the two into one glorious church that finally measures up to His Son’s stature?
We contend that He does, and that this plan has already begun to unfold! But to understand all this requires careful explanation, discernment of the developmental overlapping stages of God’s ways, and openness to moving out of limited historic paradigms. Are we up to this?
From Estrangement to Courtship:
The Breaking of Jezebel’s Grip Has Begun
We are entering a period of church history more significant than the Reformation, more significant than the Evangelical Awakening and more significant than the Pentecostal Restoration. It is a period that defies and will overturn an impregnable spiritual divide that has existed for thousands of years among God’s people. We are entering the era of “Divine Nature-Reconciliation” in final preparation for immortality and joining to the Lord.
The era now dawning on us will bring together things in Christ that have never been brought together before, while separating things out of the Lord’s true people that have never been successfully separated out before. The key to the opening of this era is a sovereign supernatural weakening of jezebel that has already begun, allowing the eyes of both pastoral and prophetic natures to begin opening to one another’s legitimacy.
This opening of the eyes is the first sign of a new “courtship” out of age-long estrangement that will eventually consummate in the “marriage” of Isa. 62:5,
“As a young man marries a maiden, so will your sons marry You.”
Indeed, it is first this “marriage” of the prophetic sons to the pastoral daughter of Zion that will produce The Completed End-Time Church able to enter into the greater Marriage with the Lord.
In the next sections we’ll focus on what is happening in both the pastoral and wilderness prophetic church realms toward this union, noting both the new strengths of vision, yet also the remaining weaknesses that still make these natures unripe for reconciliation.
