Elijah, Jezebel and the Bride:
Where Are We Now?
John the Baptist, the Virgins and the Bride
For many years and to the present, we have heard much about the Bride of Christ. But what we have heard has been clouded by the current incomplete perceptions of who and what the church is. What we need to know is how the prophetic/pastoral courtship relates to the Bride.
If there is anything we must understand about the bride of Christ, it is that the bride can be joined to the Lord only when and because she has put on the fullness of nature that He has within Himself. That means that the bride will have completed within herself the same reconciliation of prophetic/pastoral natures that the Lord has within Himself. It means She will be both as tender as He is and as fierce as He is in His terror. In this totality of nature She is truly His counterpart.
Today, short of that reconciliation, there has come to be within the pastoral-prophetic streams what may be called the “bridal movement.” But this is really only a “partial” bridal movement. Its emphasis on the purely feminine pastoral elements of the Lord and His people does not convey what either the Bride or the Lord is fully like.
Really, today’s bridal movement is only a “virgins movement.” These virgins in their romantic pastoral gentility cannot become bridal in stature until they receive the Lord’s full governmental nature within themselves, something that only the apostolic/prophetic nature can contribute.
This leads us to the last days John the Baptist ministry, its true meaning and significance. There are conflicting caricatures of John the Baptist in both the wilderness and bridal movements, neither of which are accurate. Wilderness outcasts portray John as a fire-breathing dragon who supports their unresolved personal resentments. Meanwhile, today’s pastoral bridal movement portrays John more as a eunuch in Esther’s court to put perfume on her!
No. The true essence of the John the Baptist ministry is indeed to prepare the bride for the groom. But it does this by preparing the virgins to become the bride through receiving the prophetic governmental word. John represents the governmental prophetic ministry before it has become one with the virgin pastoral stream of God to produce an offspring that can be fully married to the Lord!
Today, in the interchange of courtship, the more matured governmental saints are speaking a word from the wilderness and from the edge of the churches to the pastoral virgins. They recognize the virgins for who they are. They do not hate the virgins. They can discern between the virgins and the Pharisees, between the virgins and the harlot. This governmental word is preparing the new virgin generation of pastoral saints to receive the full governmental word of the Lord Himself in advance of His coming—something that is really quite unimaginable for its piercing and terror of heart.
Ultimately, as this prophetic voice is received and embraced by the pastoral virgins contingent, the bride will come forth of the twain, as one new body, fit and ready to receive the bridegroom in His piercing blinding fiery brilliance. The Bride is the product of John’s ministry toward the companies of the virgins.
As this preparation develops, the fierceness of intensity of the Lord’s fire will again become the portion of the purged and prepared Elijah class prophetic people. Bearing this governmental authority, they will literally call down fire on the cities of the earth for the destruction of many who oppose the Lord and would hurt the church.
There is a naivete in the mothering-prophetic stream that is unable to recognize the fierce firepower of this ministry to come. And it all speaks to the remaining incompletion of the courtship that we are in now. We are only in the beginning stages, and there is still a far way to go!
In truth, the pastoral openness to the spirit of prophecy is not enough to bring the pastoral and governmental prophetic natures into union. It has been a critical point for beginning. But there is much more that must happen before the prophetic/pastoral marriage can transpire. In the final segments, we will look at what will propel the Prophetic and Pastoral streams from courtship into actual Marriage.
