Musing on the Cycle of Life
Spiritual perspective informs us that we are seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus, and that we have the mind of Christ. Pause and pull apart for a bit if you can, to meditate further on your destiny in terms of the way the Lord sees life here below now from His Throne.
In the here and now, we are beset and hemmed in by all manner of circumstance and issue under the cloud of mortality. But the Lord takes no vision from such a perspective. His perspective is always from that eternal Throne in the heavens where already untold millions have proceeded ahead of us and await the climax to the unfolding of the redemption drama. It is that perspective we are more interested in by this writing. Because it is where we are headed anyway. So would it not help us to start assuming some of that perspective even now, in preparation if you will, for how we will see life then?
Perspective from the Throne
So what is the perspective from the Throne? What should strike us about the view from heaven's perch where we are said to be already seated?
First of all, heaven watches a continuous Cycle of streaming existence that seemingly has no end, though it had a beginning. Let's really think about that Cycle.
Have you stopped to notice how all of Creation is formed throughout according to cycles and circles, globes and orbits? Paul says that all things are "from Him and through Him and to Him." That is a cycle. The elders sit around the Throne, as do the four living creatures. That is a circle. And everything in creation is formed by globes that orbit globes, from galaxies to atoms. Even time is measured by cycles, demarked by what we call seasons which constantly rotate from the first to the last and back to the first to begin again.
And so it is true of the Cycle of Life. From the heavenly view, life is cyclical, not linear. From the local mortal view, we speak and see only linearly. We look at "birth" and "death" as two ends of a finite string. Every tombstone takes a finite linear view of life, as in: "1833 - 1907". His mortal life "began" here and it "ended" there.
But that is not the heavenly view of existence. And it is the heavenly view we want just now, because this is for our preparation. We only want the reality as seen from the Spirit, not the confined "reality" under mortality.
In the heavenly view, life has a beginning as the releasing of a spirit from the Father in heaven into the fetus of an earthly woman below. We here don't have visibility to that release. Even the Bible does not spell out its happening relative to physical conception. And we don't know if anyone else but the Father Himself has visibility to that release. Perhaps the angels do? We don't know now.
But see the view from heaven. From the beginning, first with the birth of Cain, then Abel, then Seth and all the other offspring of Adam and Eve, what started as a small trickle of human spirit releases into the earth has multiplied into the multiple billions. It is estimated that perhaps as many as 100 billion spirits have been released from the Father into the human seed line to have ever lived and who still exist somewhere, though the vast majority are no longer on earth. And so a cycle was begun at creation that has never ceased, and from all indications of scripture, has no end!
The Heavenly Generation
The Bible word for this Cycle of Life is "generations." The scriptures tell us that God's faithfulness is "to all generations." And there is no "end" here contemplated by the word "all." Now generations do have number, but they are only numbered as between one specific seed to the next. That is why Matthew can say there are "fourteen generations" from Abraham to David. But that number is only identifiable within that particular line. Similarly, generations are numerable with respect to cycles of time under the sun. That is why God can say to Abraham that his seed will come out of bondage "in the fourth generation." Here, a generation represents one hundred time cycles around the sun, that is, years. Again that is, four centuries.
But all this is from under the mortal view. In the heavenly view, all the generations identified by particular lineages or time cycles belong to one great cycling generation of life itself as delivered from the Father into the earth before returning to Him. It is a generation composed of numberless seed generations and time cycles—as the sand of the sea and stars of the sky—beyond the time of the sun. All human spirits have been released into the world by Him. (They are being released by Him right now this moment earthwide.) And they all eventually return to Him at one time or another in one form or another. Some millions return exceedingly soon after they have been released—so soon in fact that they never first come to expression in the earth through physical birth. They were miscarried or they were aborted, and so their spirits returned. Many untold millions of others saw the light of earth for but minutes or days or weeks or months before being returned by way of disease or starvation, what on earth we call the "infancy mortality rate." Their cycle of life is exceedingly short as measured from our view. Nevertheless these live before the Father to this day. (I have heard it told that these early returning spirits are brought forth in heavenly nurseries under the tutelage of angels!)
The Spirit Re-Generation Struggle
But then there are those around whom the vast drama of salvation itself is outplayed. We speak of all who come to full maturity of earthly accountability as determined by the Father—all by whom the drama of earth's visible "history" of events is outworked in its cycles throughout all cultures. All these must deal with the Father as their Creator under a state of accountability for their self-aware existence under violation of His holiness. All these will one day appear at His Throne for judgment of their deeds, whether to everlasting life, or to damnation of fully accountable soul and body. All these will return to Him, whether unto eventual "reborn" sonship through His Son, or else unto Him as the Consuming Lake of Fire which devours soul and body to ashes.
Please notice that word "'reborn sonship through His Son." That phrase is the "bread and butter" of what you and I on this Circle are all about, as well as all who have similarly come to be reborn of spirit and soul, awaiting eventual rebirth of body through resurrection or perhaps through the blessed hoped for translation. Without getting into the depths of the satanic conflict, suffice it here just to observe that this generational rebirth-struggle defines who you and I are now. It defines our sense of existential purpose by what we call "ministry." It is what has come to define our raison d'ętre under the sun since we were first brought to that wondrous new birth. This struggle out from being merely released into the earth by our Creator and into being re-released as new creations, even as incorruptible children of the Living Father, is what drives our attention every waking moment!—from the time the Holy Spirit first indwells us to our last foreseable mortal breath.
Yet this great struggle of re-purposing through spiritual rebirth is still confined to our remaining mortal existence under this sun. And so that is not what I am here to write about. I am only putting this into place of the larger picture I am writing about—that heavenside view from the Throne of who we are about and what real life is shortly to become for us. Please, don't get bogged down on earthside spirit conflict issues just here. Yes, that is what we have been about throughout this ministry, as with all ministries. But not today. This article is not about conflict. It is about perpsective for preparation.
Heaven's View of the Generational Returnees
So let's get back to the other side—the heavenly side of this Life Cycle and this great Generation. As said before, Life is about a generational Cycle that begins from the Father, and ultimately comes back to the Father in the form of (as far as we are concerned) a harvested Sonship to be received and rewarded on that heavenly side. And this then is what we see from the Throne. We see an indescribable ceaseless cycle of human spirit release from the Father into the world while we simultaneously see the rebounding back to heaven of all those who either in little time were short circuited from coming to full mortal expression, or who in longer time came to that full accountable expression only to further come to the salvific reborn expression of the Son of God.
Do you see this picture? Around the clock in heaven, there are welcoming parties of angels and already returned saints escorting in the newest generational returnees—all day, and all night! They are just streaming in non-stop through heavens open portals—from the miscarried and aborted to Sahara's starving children to unsung gospel martyrs in Asia's forgotten prisons to the simple ordinary believer in Christ on his American death bed. They are coming in from all walks from all places under all conditions from all time periods throughout history, and I mean right now as you read this! This is going on. And a huge percentage, if not the majority, of these generational returnees are children—which is why Jesus said "of such is the kingdom of heaven." (Don't think Jesus lost His heavenly vision of reality when He came down here to us. When Jesus pulled that child aside to instruct his disciples about heaven, He was seeing those portals from the other side with which He was already so familiar!)
This is the unending cycle and generation we want to see today. This is what you see from the Throne seated in that heavenly place with Christ Jesus. We want to embrace this. All the weight of the drama down here cannot compare with this view. And it is because this is the real view of existence and Life as heaven sees it, and because God is really trying to take us forward to where we are really headed, that I am being moved to write this way to you today.
The Book of Revelation immerses us in the heaven side view of reality and the generational Life Cycle. One of the great statements echoed throughout heaven's corridors is the blessing upon those who have completed their earthly portion of the circuit, "that they may rest from their labors." Personally, I am in a place where the Lord is wanting to bring me into a greater rest out of this ongoing drama of conflict here below. I am also coming into a season of this life where I know more friends who have already returned to find that rest beyond that veil than I have here remaining on the journey. And I am sure that is true with many of you reading these words today.
Planning for Our Trip
Many of us here have been laboring in the Lord under the mortal drama for several decades now, even to the half or more of our lives. And as the seasons and the humanly measured generations are changing around us, we remain in search of a viewpoint that can further anchor and establish our hearts in the soundmindedness of the Lord. It is to such purpose that this article is written.
"Prepare ye the way of the Lord" is the familiar cry of the Elijah-class heart. The Lord wants to prepare us for our real Life ahead by starting to give us a mind that sees like Jesus saw before He ever came here. Remember, He said He came to testify of heavenly things. He carried all that knowledge and experience of the other side with Him into this life. And when He returned there, He was simply going back to His native habitat. But He wanted us to know that that was also our native habitat.
People, we have not found our native habitat yet! We weren't ultimately designed for life down here the way we are now. We were made all along for the Life He now lives from that Throne and where our hearts are already supposed to be seated with Him. This means we should start to be seeing things the way He sees them—from up there. Instead of seeing all the "millions who haven't heard" down here all the time, we should start transitioning to see all the millions that are streaming into heaven as He sees them all day and all night long there. It's time for a change in our perspective. That's what this is about for you today.
The way to prepare for anything is to start shaping your mind around what it is you are preparing for. We know that we are preparing to meet the Lord. If so, should that not become more than just a trite admission and shibboleth? "Oh sure, I am preparing to meet the Lord." But are we really? If we really are preparing to meet the Lord, then there should be some kind of mental shift going on that evidences that preparation. We should begin to start learning the language of heaven and thinking like they think in heaven.
Whenever someone seriously wants to go on vacation to an exotic place they've never been before, and they are paying a hefty price to do it, one thing they want to do is to read up as much as they can on that place so they can have some advance knowledge of what the conditions are like—the climate, the culture, the language, the customs—so they will get the most memorable enjoyment out of that trip possible. That is how we should be in our attitude toward meeting the Lord in physical reality beyond the veil. We should be seeking to see and think as much like the angels and inhabitants of heaven and the Lord Himself do now before we ever get there.
Lay Down the Drama and Come Apart....
And so for today anyway, the Lord's word to me is, "Lay down the drama here and now for a change! And start preparing your heart by seeing generational life from My point of view. We are so close to rendezvous you have no idea. And I want you to start seeing your destiny more in terms of Who I Am up here to be to you than what I have called you to deal with down there. I want you to start seeing like I see everyday from here. I really do want you up here in My Throne with me more than I want your shibboleth of it."
This happens to be the start of the month of December. And we all know what season this is. And I've written about this over and over. But if you can, I really encourage you to find a way to get away with the Lord in your heart, if not in fact by pulling away to another place. And let this noisome earthly season become to you a special month of preparation by renewed thinking and anticipation of dwelling with the Lord. For it will be on such a day in your life, pulled away unto Him, like they were on that day in Acts 2, that you will hear the real midnight cry, you will be ready, and you will be gone beyond that veil.
And I plan to meet you there!
