Mt. 10:16 Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves.


 


Christ is made to us the wisdom of God. So we read in 1 Corinthians:

 

1:24 but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

 

Wisdom is of course a virtue highly praised throughout scripture. Here we are talking about godly wisdom.

 

 

But there is also another wisdom. It is not the wisdom of God. It is luciferian wisdom. This is the “wisdom of serpents” to which Jesus refers above.  

 

According to Ezekiel, Lucifer “corrupted” the wisdom he originally had from God:

 

28:17 "Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; You corrupted your wisdom by reason of your splendor….

 

So this is the source of serpent wisdom. It is wisdom originating from God that Lucifer possessed. But he corrupted it. That corruption breeds a counterfeit wisdom of Christ.

 

Such wisdom is found throughout the world especially among oriental religions and philosophies. It has the sound of Christ, borrowing from all of His terms and principles of reality, but leads to any number of false destinations rooted in false gods and idolatry. It is why many New Age tenets in many popular books can sound Christian, but are not.

 

 

War of the Wisdoms   

 

Ever since Lucifer’s fall, there has been a cosmic dual between these two wisdoms: the true wisdom of Christ Jesus and the corrupt counterfeit wisdom of the serpent. In course of this conflict, the Lord has made it clear that His purpose is to “out-wise” the serpent and his corrupted wisdom. Paul tells us that the Lord has especially ordained to demonstrate through His people the superiority of His wisdom over that of the serpent:

 

Eph. 3:10 so that the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known through the church to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly places. 11 This was in accordance with the eternal purpose which He carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord.

 

This is a statement to the effect that  “I will reveal the superiority of my wisdom over Lucifer’s corrupted wisdom by displaying it through the weakness of My People.”

 

-         The Imperative to Engage Serpent Wisdom

 

So this is where we come into the conflict.

 

Now, in order for us to display the superiority of God’s wisdom over Lucifer’s, it becomes eventually mandatory for us to have to engage and understand the corrupted wisdom of Lucifer. We cannot forever ignore it and pretend it is not there simply because we are devoted to God’s wisdom alone. 

 

This is why Jesus bemoaned that “the sons of this world are more shrewd in their generation than the sons of light” and why He said we must be “shrewd as serpents.” There was so much more behind this little statement than what is realized.

 

The Lord cannot defeat Lucifer’s wisdom apart from our growing up into some understanding of it. Through our ignorance of serpent wisdom, we are instead taken advantage of by the serpent and God’s purpose for a matured People is hindered.

 

We can even go as far as to say that the Church’s overall ignorance of serpent wisdom is a significant reason why so little imprint of kingdom authority is seen today in society. When it comes to dealing on the level of most world power structure levels, whether law, commerce, finance or government, the world is “robbing the church blind.”

 

When it comes to how the world really works, most sheep know nothing, question nothing and believe anything they hear from the leaders of the world. We are content to let the news media do our thinking for us, all we look at is “visible thrones,” and there are very few if any exemplary statesmen among us with whom the world must treat and whom they respect for our superior wisdom in Christ. 

 

 

Instructed into Serpent Wisdom

 

Key demonstrations of God’s leaders being instructed into serpent wisdom are found in scripture. Moses was trained in all of the knowledge of Egypt. Later, so was Joseph. And later still, so was Daniel. Daniel’s training is specially identified. And not only this, but scripture points out the superior mastery of Daniel’s wisdom over all the serpent wisdom of the Chaldeans:

 

Dan. 1:3 Then the king ordered Ashpenaz, the chief of his officials, to bring in some of the sons of Israel, …showing intelligence in every branch of wisdom, endowed with understanding and discerning knowledge, and who had ability for serving in the king's court; and he ordered him to teach them the literature and language of the Chaldeans.…6 Now among them from the sons of Judah were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah.… 17 As for these four youths, God gave them knowledge and intelligence in every branch of literature and wisdom; Daniel even understood all kinds of visions and dreams. 18 Then at the end of the days which the king had specified for presenting them, the commander of the officials presented them before Nebuchadnezzar. 19 The king talked with them, and out of them all not one was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah; so they entered the king's personal service. 20 As for every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king consulted them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and conjurers who were in all his realm.

 

5:10 The queen … spoke and said, "…11 There is a man in your kingdom in whom is a spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of your father, illumination, insight and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods were found in him. And King Nebuchadnezzar… appointed him chief of the magicians, conjurers, Chaldeans and diviners. 12 … because an extraordinary spirit, knowledge and insight, interpretation of dreams, explanation of enigmas and solving of difficult problems were found in this Daniel…

 

6:3 Then this Daniel began distinguishing himself among the commissioners and satraps because he possessed an extraordinary spirit, and the king planned to appoint him over the entire kingdom.

 

Notice please how Daniel’s superior wisdom from the Lord came about as a result of his forced interface with the learning of the literature of the Chaldeans. This literature was all about things foreign and contrary to the God of Israel. It was all about the workings of a heathen society. It was serpent learning. Yet Daniel had to learn it in order to receive the superior wisdom from the Father by which to challenge it all and make a name for the One True God above that kingdom.

 

 

Wisdoms in Conflict

 

We are also given demonstrations of the direct conflict between the divine and luciferian wisdoms involving God’s people. Again, Moses and Daniel are highlighted.

 

What is of keen interest about Moses is that God gave him a rod that was to turn into a serpent!

 

Ex. 4:2 The LORD said to him, "What is that in your hand?" And he said, "A staff." 3 Then He said, "Throw it on the ground." So he threw it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it. 4 But the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand and grasp it by its tail "-so he stretched out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his hand - 5 "that they may believe that the LORD, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you."

 

Why was this? I always use to wonder why God would use a serpent instead of something that directly depicted Himself. Why would God want to use the emblem of His enemy as His calling card in Pharaoh’s court?? Like many, I found confusion and offense in this.

 

But this is why. And now I think I understand. The rod into a serpent was a divine statement about the cosmic wisdom conflict. It was God’s way to say “I will out-wise the wisdom of the serpent.” The Exodus from Egypt then was not just about setting people free. It was about the cosmic wisdom conflict. And the showdown between Moses and Pharaoh was simply the stage for this particular showdown between Christ and Lucifer’s corrupted wisdom.

 

This in turn is why the swallowing up of the serpents of Pharaoh’s magicians by Moses’ serpent was so important. It was all part of the grand statement. The wisdom of Lucifer was defeated in Egypt. To understand this more fully, it’s important to get that Egypt’s “wisdom” was an espousing of all the same “man can become god” and “knowledge is power” c*** that is being spouted today. Nothing has changed. Same battle. Different age. That is all.

 

God’s use of the serpent to defeat the serpent is also the ultimate explanation for why Moses was told to lift up a serpent on a pole for the people to find healing from serpent bites, and why in turn Christ identified Himself as the fulfilment of that serpent lifted up on the cross:

 

Num. 21:6 The LORD sent fiery serpents among the people and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died. 7 So the people came to Moses and said, "We have sinned, because we have spoken against the LORD and you; intercede with the LORD, that He may remove the serpents from us." And Moses interceded for the people. 8 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a standard; and it shall come about, that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, he will live." 9 And Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on the standard; and it came about, that if a serpent bit any man, when he looked to the bronze serpent, he lived.

 

Jn. 3:14 "As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; 15 so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life.

 

Again, this is something that use to bother me. Why would God have Moses put a serpent on a pole and why would Christ liken Himself to a serpent—the emblem of Lucifer—in saving us???

 

Well, we now know why this is so. Christ as the serpent on the cross was again the ultimate statement of, “I am going to out-serpent the serpent. I am going to out-wise the corrupted wisdom of Lucifer.” And that is essentially what Paul is saying in 1 Corinthians.

 

2:6 Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom, however, not of this age nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing away; 7 but we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory; 8 the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

 

In likening Himself to the serpent on the pole, Jesus was of course also making the statement that “I am the antidote to the ‘serpent bites’ on humanity.” It is a statement that He took on the venom of Lucifer, “being made sin” so we might be healed.

 

 

Serpent Wisdom Under Our Feet

 

In the end, the victory of Christ over Lucifer’s wisdom becomes the ultimate meaning to the prophecy that Christ would crush the “head” of the serpent.

 

Gen. 3:14 NIV So the LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, Cursed are you above all livestock and all wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life. 15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”

 

That head of the serpent is the serpent’s wisdom (or as it is known and worshipped in the Hindu world, the “crown chakra” which ultimately arises from the serpentine force known as the “kundalini”).

 

This is in turn how we as God’s People have been ordained to share in that head crushing. We after all are Christ’s feet, and it is through us Jesus has said He will trample the head of the serpent:

 

I Cor. 12:27 Now you are Christ's body, and individually members of it.--- Eph. 5:30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

 

Ps. 110:1 The LORD says to my Lord: "Sit at My right hand Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet."

 

Lk. 10:19 "Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you.

 

The crushing of the serpent’s wisdom is part of the overall process in which all Christ’s enemies are being brought under His feet, of which we are members and through whom the treading of the serpent’s head is ordained to take place! (Note that the verse about Christ’s enemies being brought under dominion of His feet is quoted three times in the New Testament. God is serious about His New Covenant People sharing in the crushing of the head of the serpent.)

 

 

Crushing the Serpent’s Head in Babylon

 

What does all of this finally mean to us? To you and to me?

 

As kingdom people who have an ordained role in the crushing of the Lord’s enemies, we must expect there to be a call on us akin to Moses and Daniel in the last generation, a people whose pinnacle achievement is to serve as head crushers of luciferian wisdom, all to the glory of the Father in their contest.

 

We are coming to a time when the lament of Jesus over our ignorance of serpent wisdom is to be no more. The Lord expects to grow us to a place where He will no longer have to say that “the children of this world are wiser than the children of light.” We are being brought to a time where His exhortation that we be shrewd as serpents is to be seen as “the rule” among us (pardon the pun), not the exception!

 

But how is this to happen? It is to happen through the desert training of the Lord. It is to happen through training with rods of wisdom that look like that of serpents. It is to happen through training in “the literature of the Chaldeans.” It requires a new brand of learning and educating by the Lord in these last days. This kind of training has a part in reflecting what the next revelation of Christ is going to look like, of which we have already written much.

 

-         Dealing With the Flood of Serpentine Wisdom

 

Have you noticed how that over an entire generation the wisdom of the serpent has just utterly poured into Western civilization like a flood? The entire culture is now permeated with New Age thought and conceptualization and practice. Why do we think this is?

 

It is because God has a kingdom people to raise up as a standard against it.

 

Is. 59:19 NKJ “….When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him.”

 

Does this not remind us of the prophecy of Revelation 12?

 

12:15 And the serpent poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, so that he might cause her to be swept away with the flood. 16 But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and drank up the river which the dragon poured out of his mouth.

 

What is this flood of the enemy that would seek to sweep the entire church away? We are talking about no less than the flood of serpentine wisdom that even now saturates the culture amidst which the Church now ignorantly sits.

 

See, here’s the deal. The Church has been watching this flood come in for decades, and simply sought to create life preservers for sitting it out until Jesus comes to the rescue. The Church has cloistered itself behind its walls in what has been called the “Christian ghetto,” where we all talk among ourselves about the wonderful things of the Lord, but remain otherwise clueless about what is really going on touching the invisible thrones of this world whose serpentine philosophies now pretty much run the show.

 

This flood however is not just going to go away, and Jesus is not going to just come and rescue us from it. The whole purpose of the flood is to both test our own first love for the Lord and toughen us up to the call to war on the side of God’s Wisdom, a stand that requires us to engage and master in some degree this flood so as to swallow it up as Moses’ rod did of Pharaoh’s magicians and as the earth does of the serpent’s flood.

 

The Coming World Showdown

 

So here is what you need to know. In the coming years, this flood of serpent wisdom will come to overshadow the other main bodies of human culture, namely, economy and government. The world as a whole is going to move from secular and atheistic to universalist eastern mystic.  The “man is god” cult is going to pervade everything as the entire world takes on the flavors of Egypt and Babylon. And it is in that context that the man of sin—the last Pharaoh, the last Nebuchadnezzar—is going to arise and demand to be worshipped as god.

 

When that time arrives in earnest, those of the Church who are alive and remain will either rise to display the superior wisdom of God and crush the head of serpent wisdom with all the costs that will require, or else the church will drown. Great numbers will fall away into the serpentine wisdom under that flood.

 

Make no mistake. In the end, under the power of the next revelation of Christ, the Son of God will arise to prevail and finally tread lucifer’s wisdom under the feet of His people. That is what Revelation 11 through 15 is all about. But amidst that great tribulation, many will fall away who were unprepared for what was coming. Their “passion for Jesus” will grow cold. The Christian ghetto (ie, “Christian City”) will not survive. And everyone will have a choice to make.

 

Amid all this, the Lord will be tapping more and more people to become Moseses, Josephs and Daniels who will have to directly face down the gods of Egypt and Babylon, throwing down their rods after first becoming more fully educated in the nature of serpentine wisdom and what drives it. Such could be some of you. The past paradigms of the 20^th century regarding the end times and even those of the present are going to fade away. And unless we key into what the Lord by His Spirit is trying to bring us into during the nearing time of philosophical and revelatory crisis, we may not make it.

 

Today of course the clash between wisdoms is already quite evident, with the serpents lifting their voices in the streets touting their “answers” to all of life’s problems.

 

But the answers to this life’s issues are not really with the serpents. They are beyond the serpents. They are with God alone who is ready to reveal them to His “wisdom stewards” through the “spirit of wisdom and revelation,” and not the “knowledge is power” mantra that all the serpents spout.

 

 

“Let him that glories, glory in this, that He knows Me.”

 

The knowledge of God is the only place where the wisdom of God is to be found. But to open up this superior wisdom to us, God will be increasingly calling His People into a process of serpent-wisdom training, out of which He will give them parallel superior wisdom impartation from the Spirit of Truth. This is encapsulated in what the angel told Daniel about the times surrounding the final revelation of Christ:

 

11:32 "… the people who know their God will display strength and take action. 33 "Those who have insight among the people will give understanding to the many; … 35 "Some of those who have insight will fall, in order to refine, purge and make them pure until the end time; because it is still to come at the appointed time….12:1 "Now at that time Michael, the great prince who stands guard over the sons of your people, will arise. And there will be a time of distress such as never occurred since there was a nation until that time; and at that time your people, everyone who is found written in the book, will be rescued. 2 "Many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, these to everlasting life, but the others to disgrace and everlasting contempt. 3 "Those who have insight will shine brightly like the brightness of the expanse of heaven, and those who lead the many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever. 4 "But as for you, Daniel, conceal these words and seal up the book until the end of time; many will go back and forth, and knowledge will increase."

 

 

Why you May Be Found “Captive” to Uncomfortable Earthbound Learning Scenarios

 

This last section is especially for those who, despite your desire to give yourselves wholly and only to the things of God, find yourselves inexplicable captive to having to pass through training in various avenues of worldly finance, law, government, science, medicine, education or other earthly disciplines central to worldly life.

 

Think one last time about how Daniel was carried away unwillingly to Babylon. That is pretty much what is happening to the church as a whole now. You can’t eat, drink, sleep, work or do anything without being overwhelmed by the floodtide of filth and false philosophies permeating the Babylonian airwaves. Respite is hard to come by. We have been being “carried away” into this captivity for a long time.

 

In course of this, many are increasingly finding themselves uniquely in Daniel’s position where, held captive under various Babylonian enslavements, they are forced to learn the “wisdom” of the “foreclosure” Chaldeans, the wisdom of the “debt system” Chaldeans, the wisdom of the “law court” Chaldeans, the wisdom of the “medical” Chaldeans, the wisdom of the “business world” Chaldeans, etc. But parallel to this and perhaps unknown to them, they are being prepared to receive greater revelatory divine wisdom that will produce true solutions before troubled kings and Pharaohs that will command their attention to the Living God.

 

So it is God gave Daniel what it took to rise from the bottom of captivity to the top, and to maintain that authority stance through seven decades of cosmic wisdom conflict. This is the kind of tenacity amidst upheaving readjustment that is becoming required as we move into the final phase of the Times of the Gentiles under Babylonian dominion.

 

At a certain point, those of us being peculiarly so trained are going to be raised up clearly to articulate the superior wisdom of our God over all the worldly wisdom of the serpent. If “revival” in the coming days under the next revelation of Christ is to look like anything at all, this will be it. As has been said before, we will not be preaching the “Romans Road” to salvation and the “four spiritual laws.” We will be throwing down the rod in Pharaoh’s court! And through all the training we have received, what God has given us will swallow up all the rods of all the New Age gurus.

 

But we are not there yet. We’re not ready for the actual and complete superior wisdom. We’re only just beginning to learn that we, like Moses, must first get a hold of serpent wisdom by the tail en route to the divine revelation.

 

True, we understand that God did not actually use the serpent wisdom to deliver the people from Egypt or Daniel from Nebuchadnezzar. The power is not in the knowledge. No. He used His own power of revelation. He imparted His own revelation through His own Voice. And that is what He will finally do with us.

 

But until the moment that the day star of that superior wisdom arises in our hearts, those of us so called must keep to following the elusive and twisty paths of serpent wisdom to which we may have been called. We are in pursuit mode. We will overtake the enemy in our search for solutions. And we will without fail recover all that the system has stolen from us theft by deception. God will raise up leaders to recover much for many of His People out of all these worldly realms.

My point then today in this study on serpent wisdom and the divine conflict is not only to sound a trumpet toward preparedness for how things are going to change, but to stir each and every one called to an overcomer’s diligence in making the same rise that Daniel did inside Babylon, until God gets the glory He is after in this war of the wisdoms—until the gates at last open to release all His People from this captivity through Exodus into the full and complete reign of our Risen Lord Jesus on His return together with all the glorified saints.

 

Understand that God is very far from just allowing the Church to coast its way out of these final end times from inside the cloistered walls of “Christian City.” By the time all these things come to pass, the very walls and gates of the culture “church” may very well be “broken down and burned with fire,” our people “scattered and carried off,” from whence the Daniels of these times will arise.

 

Be instructed then and re-oriented as need be, knowing that you are slated to overcome in all these things, and to stand before the Son of Man with the same power of respect God bestows on all those who rise to display His perfected Wisdom over the crushed head of the serpent.

 

“Be wise as serpents.”
