Where Are You Looking Now?
November 1, 2024
As the 2024 U.S. presidential election hits the world next week, the question for you, the prophetic disciple, is not who will win or what will happen as a result, but where will you be looking as the fallout proceeds?
Why must that be the real question?
Where we are looking determines our direction and our destiny. If we are taken up with the questions surrounding the external events, our direction and destiny will be confined to that. We will become defined by the external. Therein will lie our hope and our treasure, and it will quickly pass into insignificance. We end as a broken potsherd surrounded by nothing but other broken potsherds.
I'm speaking about this now from more than 50 years’ experience following elections and current events. In that half century I have watched innumerable movements come and go, rise and fall. Names of national and world leaders, movers and shakers familiar to me in youth are today almost completely unremembered if not totally unknown to the present generation. I'm speaking about both earthly national leaders and spiritual leaders of the American church. Yet in their “hour” of prominence, God's people (myself included) were stirred to frenzied levels of passion about “who would win” or “what would happen” as a result if the “right” person didn't win.
Every next election was billed as “the most critical in our lifetime.” The “fate of the nation” was made to hang in the balance on the political fortunes of a single man. And yet, the underlying trajectory of the nation, the world and the church was and never has been finally altered, regardless of who “won.” (From a human perspective, the “critical” choice in this election is the equivalent of choosing between death by electrocution and death by lethal injection. The only difference is in who will execute the nation faster—“jezebel,” or a “man of sin”?)
Despite all the spiritual prophetic and intercessory antics over the surface struggle to change the course of history, the world has steadily marched toward the destiny prophesied in the book of Revelation. The U.S. has steadily marched with it, (indeed, has in fact led it) toward that same destiny—a destiny called Armageddon. And the church has steadily marched toward its own divided destiny—a destiny of glory for some, wilderness robe washing for multitudes more, and to sword, prison and trampling for still masses more of us.
Everyone who has looked to the “next president” to “save America” has gone down in disappointment and defeat, becoming the ultimate loser in every election. I'm talking prophets and intercessors and media preachers here. That's where they have always looked, and it is where they are still looking.
The like question is, are you following them? Or, if you have lived the same history I have, the question is, are you still following them?
Jesus on His Throne uses the course of this world simply for one thing: to sift His eternal followers from the riffraff. He shakes the sieve of time and watches the uncountable sand pounders fall through the mesh, while the gold, the silver, and the gems remain to His sparkling view. It is those gems He is coming for.
Do you really want to understand the times? Then stop listening to YouTube prophets, and start immersing yourself in the Book of Revelation. That book has all the prophecy you need to know the Lord's true point of view on what the times are about. Stop listening to prophetic potsherds striving with the prophetic potsherds of the earth. Start listening to the Voice that says, "Come up here, and I will show you the things to come."
Yes, it's there for you. You don't need a prophet to tell you what's going on or going to happen. No prophet or intercessor can tell you anything different than what the angelic messenger of that Book has to say. And if any of them tries to add to or take away from what that Book has to say, their fate is already set.
The beauty of Revelation is that it gives you the story of these times from the eternal perspective. That is the only perspective that matters and the only one you want to have, because that is the only place and direction that true destiny for you is to be found. That Book shows us our people quite alive and well beyond the veil, and what and Who is really in control of what is happening here. It’s not anybody you are looking at down here! Not one thing here is happening without ordination and permission from up there. No world wide plague, no nuclear detonation, no massive armed invasion, no assassination happens down here that doesn't have the authority of some heavenly seal, trumpet or angelic decree of one of our own fellow servants the prophets behind it.
Those decrees are all that matter, and on what side of them you want to be found. (You can be sealed in your forehead with the Father's seal on this side of those judgments if you want to be.) But no human leader is dictating anything down here without some permission from above.
Yet God's own people are instead adopting the attitude, “Who is like the beast, who can make war with it?” as if the deep state, the fed, big tech and the World Economic Forum hold all final power and authority in heaven and earth. Then on top of that, we resort to using the beast's own political tools to try to stop the beast!
As the Lord said it Himself, "See how far you have fallen, and repent."
No one likes the squeezing of these times—the pressure, the nonstop drama, the constant edge of criticality on which every next issue is made to hang. But the good news is, none of us has to take our cues from any of it. There is a place on the inside of each and every true Spirit fire-baptized disciple—a secret place, a hidden place of eternal life and a fountain of living water—behind which is an open door that no man can shut. That door will take you straight to the Throne room where you can sit at the Lamb's side and watch from behind His shoulder as He sifts the world and issues His decrees—if you will just shut off the social media long enough to find it!
That Lamb has your back, your front, your sides, and is before you and behind you. You can live from that inner place now all the way until the redemption is complete. That is in fact the only location from which you will be able to enter that door into final redemption. Glorification only happens from the inside out. (Do not say, “Lo here, or lo there you will find it.” Don't fly to the next mass hyped spiritual phenom in whatever place so reported. It doesn’t matter if “it’s God.” You will be let down. Stay put where you belong in that inner place.)
I only want the eternal view now. The Spirit’s revelation on Revelation gives me that view. (I especially want it because I now know way more people on that side of the veil than I do here!) Again, my perspective is shaped by over a half century of trial and error in learning to discern where the Lord really is from what He only appears to be doing. The Lord is not in any of the wind, fire and earthquake otherwise reported to be the activity of the Spirit (which it is.)
The vast majority of that activity is falling upon an otherwise prayerless people creating a mass illusion of spirituality within the masses. But it's not there. It's only fool’s gold. And then it just dissipates away as if it had never happened. (See how quickly IHOP collapsed. And where are the visitations of Toronto and Brownsville today?)
The aura on a thing does not prove the substance of the thing. So it is now for most of what you still see as "God moving" (which He undeniably is, but just not in the way you think. His activity is merely for sifting the substance before popping the aura). No matter the glow and the flow of the aura on it, whether of flesh alone or mixed with the true Spirit, whatever is built on the sand of the external will always still collapse.
Back to the election then, and to conclude: The only winner in next week's election will be the one who finds the Lord in the secret place and remains unmoved by all the fallout that will ensue out of it. It is the one who dwells only under the shadow of the Almighty, who remains contrite and trembles at His word, who is going to win next week. That one will be brought closer to birth as part of God's manchild, even as the cacophony spews out all around that the devil continues sending after the woman. But it will not come near that hidden one who “comes up hither.”
Do then as the Lord says through Isaiah (26:20),"Come, my people, enter your chambers, and shut your doors behind you; hide yourselves for a little while until the fury has passed by!"
