              Making the Case for
              Transcendent Newness

If the Transcendent view of the Body of Christ and the One New Man is correct, then the hybrid idea of amalgamated heritages is seen to be false, however sincerely embraced by messianic or gentile-origined prophetic believers. But if the transcendent view is the truth, where is the evidence for it?

The concept of "transcendent identity" is not a humanly contrived one but is derived from the fuller body of scriptural evidence, some of which has already been cited. We need only read everything Paul wrote about the believers' relationship to fleshly heritage. His description of transcendent corporate identity is clear, thorough and unambiguous--in accord with the very words of Yeshua and even John the Baptist who first denied heritage as a basis of approval with God.

From Galatians, to Romans, to Corinthians, to Philippians, Paul details what it means to be a "new creature in Christ" relative to one's past and his natural upbringing, and especially in relationship to Jewish upbringing. The following passages provide more than adequate sampling:

2:25 For indeed circumcision is of value if you practice the Law; but if you are a transgressor of the Law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. 26 So if the uncircumcised man keeps the requirements of the Law, will not his uncircumcision be regarded as circumcision? 27 And he who is physically uncircumcised, if he keeps the Law, will he not judge you who though having the letter of the Law and circumcision are a transgressor of the Law? 28 For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh. 29 But he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that which is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God. Romans 2

3:21 But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; 29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, 30 since indeed God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith is one. Romans 3

In fact, Paul personally lived out the demonstration of the transcendent view of the one body. As an arch Jew, he demonstrated himself to be one with Gentiles in faith--a oneness transcending both his and their heritages. He modeled transcendent corporate newness. And his first churches were comprised of remnant believing Jews with gentiles together--churches to whom he preached against the idea of cultural amalgamation.
