The Body And The Beast -
Discerning the Joseph and Moses Eras in
Now a new king arose over
, who did not know Joseph. Exodus 1:8 Egypt
America’s earliest days, settlers have used Old Testament prophetic types to identify ’s place in the plan of God and the church’s relationship to it. As seen already, believers then and now have commonly linked America Americato Old Testament . But as also shown, this is a misplaced prophetic type (except in the sense that Israel America, like , proves that no fleshly nation can fulfil the New Testament concept of a Christian nation.) Israel
Still, there are Old Testament prophetic types that can help identify where the Body of Christ has been and is today in relationship to
the Beast. These types appear wherever we have examples of America dwelling inside of other nations. Israel typifies God’s People of today. Nations inside whom Israel Israeldwelt can typify and other nations from various angles. We already saw for example how the Cyrus anointing applies to America . America
But there is one type that I believe goes farther than any other to help us truly understand the Body’s relation to
, past and future. It is the picture of America Israel’s original sojourn into and final departure out of . Egypt
Here is a fascinating observation.
Israel’s sojourn in both begins and ends as a story of deliverance. The story begins with a deliverance by means of and inside of Egypt with the raising up of Joseph. The story ends with a deliverance apart from and out of Egypt with the raising up of Moses. Let’s look at this progressive story more closely. Egypt
The Rise of Joseph
Contrary to God’s ultimate plan for His People as an independent nation, God took Joseph, one of His own, from conditions of abject bondage (conditions forced on him by his own brethren), and supernaturally elevated him to become second in command in all of Egypt. Though still under Pharaoh’s authority in name, Joseph wielded all the power of Pharaoh, driving the economic policy of the whole country. By his position, he provided a way for all those of his family to come, escape famine, multiply and prosper exceedingly.
Is this not a striking representation of what happened between the church and the world at
’s founding? In the beginning, coming from the dungeons of persecution and slavery in America Europe, the persecuted church (hounded into slavery by it's state approved denominational brethren) was raised to an exalted position of influence and leadership in the American nation. It was given “Pharaoh”-level authority in many ways.
Though testifying born-again Christians did not actually found
Americaand Americawas not founded on Biblical or prophetically revealed law as to truly be a “Christian nation,” Christians nevertheless held high positions of leadership in ’s colonial and earliest national days. In the earliest colonies of America Plymouthand , the town minister and the town president held almost equal power and influence. This is an example of the prophetic type of Joseph and Pharaoh—the spiritual man of God holding and occupying political beast power alongside and under the elected political ruler. Massachusetts
The arrangement between Joseph and Pharaoh lasted throughout the rest of Joseph’s life and that of the Pharaoh who raised him up. The arrangement provided “nationally-funded” food and shelter for the Lord’s people in a region otherwise dominated by famine and destitution. Likewise, the reasonably amicable arrangement between the Christian clergy and the political leadership in
also established a national place of provision and protection for the church at large in a world marked largely by poverty, affliction and religious persecution. America
The Wane of Joseph
But over time, Joseph died and so did Pharaoh. Things continued on between the Israelites and the Egyptians without much change. Nevertheless, there was change. Though imperceptible at first, the Israelites increasingly lost their favored and elevated place in Egyptian life. As generations came and went, new Pharaohs arose who were further and further removed from the knowledge and memory of Joseph. Among the Israelites, the story of Joseph became legend. It was retold over and over. It was however now just a story. They themselves could not retain Joseph’s clout in
Instead of retaining their clout, the Hebrews began to be despised. And ultimately, they became openly enslaved by a last Pharaoh who knew nothing about Joseph and who wanted to secure
’s glory and power against any possible uprising by the Hebrews. So he passed “discriminatory economic laws” against the Hebrews until they could do nothing but live hand-to-mouth under a life of slavery. (I wonder if they were all given a state number to identify them?) Egypt
Does any of this start to sound familiar in the American spiritual context? It should become obvious that like as the Hebrews began losing their sway in Egypt to become increasingly despised and enslaved, so has the Christian American church slowly but surely lost its power among the ruling elite of America. The American pastorate has gradually ceased to be a voice of social influence, but is now gagged in slave status as a state corporation under the IRS 501-c-3 code.
is coming to the place where its leadership does not recognize the historical “Joseph” of the American church at all. History is being rewritten in the classrooms of public education to diminish and minimize all references to America ’s past Christian influences. Today, laws are increasingly passed to muzzle the church from openly testifying to her faith, either in the public square or in the marketplace or in the halls of education. Like as Israel eventually became confined to a ghetto called “Goshen,” so the American church has become confined to a religious social ghetto where its influence on government and culture is now at best marginal, while at the same time tied to dependency on Pharaoh’s slave system of social security for sustenance. America
The Rise of Moses
But what finally happened? As the period of slavery reached a critical mass, the Lord moved to raise up another deliverer. The Lord raised up Moses, right from the midst of the Egyptian court itself! But there was a huge difference in God’s plan for deliverance through Moses and His previous plan of deliverance through Joseph. With Moses, the Lord did not intend to restore
to its former place of glory amidst the Egyptians. Not at all! His plan now was—as it ultimately was all along—to deliver Israel Israelout of Egyptall together, to establish Israel’s sovereignty under Him alone as a unique nation in the earth, and to bring to its own place of establishment according to the promise to Abraham! Israel
Such a deliverance would be gutsy. It would take much contention with and confrontation of the powers that be—employing spiritual powers never seen before. It would have to be supernatural—something beyond human schemes of campaign, revolt, revolution and political overthrow. But the goal was clear—total independence and freedom from the slave system of the Egyptian beast and its ruling elite. In time it would involve the revelation of a new “constitution” imparted directly by God to Moses. And it would require supernatural provision outside of the systems of all the surrounding beast nations until a new independent economic system could be established in the
. landof Promise
In fact, that is where we are today in America as the people of the Lord. We are in the dawn of the "Moses Era." We are approaching the hour where the Lord is ready to fully release His Body from within the originally protective housing-turned-jail of the anointed Beast called the United States—and indeed from the entire world system. This is consistent with the end-time consciousness that dominates the church of these generations in light of the typology the Book of Revelation uses to describe the church’s deliverance.
In Revelation 15, the saints who find their final deliverance from the world’s global beast system comprising all the world’s beast nations are found “singing the song of Moses” in re-enactment of the song that was sung by Israel after they were delivered from Egypt. (It was not the “song of Joseph!”) That we are now dominated by the consciousness that these are the final end times, and we can readily see the global beast system around us proves to us that we have indeed come to the Moses Era. In this era, God’s ultimate intention is for the separation of His Body from slavery under the world’s Beast powers and for their establishment as a sovereign people throughout the earth. This is imminently at hand. [More on the implications of all this in Part XIII. ]
As pertains to the American church and beast, the witness does not stop there. Please consider that the time period between
’s deliverances by Joseph and Moses was roughly 400 years. Do you suppose this time period has any significance for us today? You bet! Can we not help but see that in America today, we are approximately 400 years out now from the time America’s first colonies were established under the “Joseph anointing” for the Body’s deliverance from the oppression of European government? Israel
Here today, four centuries later, we are witnessing the rise of the “Moses spirit” in the faithful listening prophetic church. More and more are hearing the whisper of the Holy Spirit calling “Come out of her, My People.” There is a knowing that the time of the end of this world’s systems and our enslavement to them is at hand. And there is a sense that a “Deliverer” is near.
There are in fact many deeper prophetic patterns of truth to be discovered by following out the story of the rise of Moses from within the court of Egypt. That Moses arose from within the court of Pharaoh itself tells us from whence the people who arise to deliver the church will come. Consistent with what I have already written in The Next Revelation of Christ and the New Gentiles, they will come from within the heart of the beast system itself.
These deliverers however already have and will make mistakes. In prematurity they have and will attempt to use carnal means to begin effecting deliverance before its time by “killing the Egyptian.” They will get caught up in “patriot movements” and even some of the militias. For this they have and will be driven into the wilderness where they will learn of the Lord how to become meek as shepherds. They will lose the power of their original political voices, but will retain their knowledge of the ins and outs of Pharaoh’s court wherein they will follow the Lord’s instructions in making their new Spirit empowered challenges to the Beast declaring, “Let My People Go.” And this is just for starters…
Discerning the Eras
There is a major problem however in the Body inside
today. It is the gross failure to discern between the Joseph and Moses Eras in the plan of God. Although the Moses Era is even now upon us, the overwhelming majority of “spirit-filled prophetic” and evangelical voices are crying out from their own uncrucified fleshly-spirits, expending exhaustive carnal political labors on trying to restore the “Joseph Era” in America! Why? As already said, it is because at her root, the Body is unable to discern her essentially distinctive identity apart from the Beast of America, and therefore has no vision for such a separate kingdom identity in the earth. America
So it is everyone wants the Lord to bring
back to the days when Joseph was raised up. “We want Joseph! We want Joseph!” ïs the cry every four years. And so the political operatives inside America's "Goshen" look in vain for candidates who can carry the Joseph banner that will restore the American beast to its former anointed state when Pharaoh was favorable to Joseph under the American forefathers…. Ronald Joseph Reagan….Pat Joseph Robertson….George Joseph Bush…. America
And the sad part is that many of these people will be those who—as the Moses Era comes into fuller manifestation—when the costs of true deliverance of the Body from the Beast in their entirety become known—will resist Moses and cry to “go back to Egypt;” and will die in the deserts of the tribulation period at hand. [For more on the costs of the dawning Moses Era, see The Call to Kingdom Responsibility ]
Instead of looking back to Joseph, it is time to become Moses. It’s time for the Body to come out of the Beast.
